Shea Butter is used in many of our skin care products, including our beautiful Hinterland Hand Scrub, and our best-selling soaps! So why is this natural ingredient so popular in skin care? Read on to discover shea butter's benefits for your skin...
Shea butter (butyrospermum parkii) comes from the nut of the Shea tree, originally found in Africa. It is usually white or cream in colour and has a soft, buttery consistency. When rubbed directly into the skin it will soften and melt with your body's natural heat. It usually doesn't have a strong smell which makes it perfect to add to natural products.
Shea butter contains vitamins A and E, as well as essential fatty acids. These, together with other nutrients, assist with collagen production in your skin. Used regularly, shea butter can help your skin to appear softer, smoother and may assist in reducing wrinkles.
Overall shea butter is a ultra-nourishing ingredient that provides plenty of moisture to your skin. It will leave you feeling hydrated and protected against the elements, while also giving you an instant glow. It's great to use on sun damaged or dehydrated skin and can be helpful to reduce the the visibility of stretch-marks and scars.
