Chamomile & Lavender: Our Dream Team for Sensitive Skin
Vasse Virgin’s chamomile and lavender range was first created out of necessity, when Louis and Edwina’s children were diagnosed with severe eczema. They were told by doctors not to use any commercial soap products on their children’s’ skin, so they did their own research and created the pure unscented soap and Lavender and Chamomile Soothing Skin Balm that we still sell today.
Since then, Edwina has conducted further research into the benefits of these two essential oils and we have continued to use them in our signature range for sensitive skin. Read on to find out more about these two oils and why they are so beneficial for your skin…
Chamomile is a flower that looks similar to a daisy, originally found in tropical and sub-tropical regions. It is now grown commercially in Egypt, Hungary, France and Eastern Europe. There are two types of chamomile, Roman and German.
Chamomile oil is very potent, with only a few drops needed to be beneficial for your skin. We use the pure essential oil in our chamomile and lavender range, as well as the dried flowers in our chamomile and lavender soap. Chamomile essential oil is one of the most expensive oils we use in the Soap Factory, with one litre costing around $3500!
Lavender has been used for over 2500 years, with Romans using it for bathing, cooking and scenting the air. The essential oil is made from distilling the flower of the lavender plant. The buds are distilled, the steam collected and then condensed into a potent liquid (the essential oil). We use Lavender Mt Blanc essential oil in our products, which is sourced from France. Lavender essential oil is known to increase focus and improve mental clarity, as well as being beneficial for the skin.
Both chamomile and lavender are known to reduce redness and irritation of the skin. Chamomile soothes inflamed skin and lavender is great for soothing the itch and irritation of eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis. Both lavender and chamomile also relieve the itchiness of mosquito and other insect bites. Sufferers from dandruff and an itchy scalp can massage our Soothing Skin Balm or Massage Oil into their scalp over night for relief.
Both of these essential oils are also known to relieve stress and can help you feel calm and relaxed. The smell of lavender is wonderful to help get to sleep, and we know a cup of chamomile tea is great before bed too!
These two essential oils work perfectly together to relieve symptoms of eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis caused by a range of factors. Using an all-natural skincare range, specifically designed for sensitive skin, is a great step to keep your skin healthy, and to reduce and manage any sensitive skin issues you may be suffering from.
