You may know chamomile as a warm, calming tea to drink before bed - but do you know how chamomile is used in skincare?
Chamomile (pronounced cam-o-mile) is a flower that looks similar to a daisy with small white petals surround a tiny yellow pollen centre, and was originally found in tropical and sub-tropical regions. Nowadays, its grown commercially across Northern Africa and Europe, including Egypt, Hungary, France and Eastern Europe.
There are two types of chamomile – Roman and German – and is most known for its use as a herbal tea to help calm anxiety and unsettled stomachs.
Although chamomile is known best for its benefits when used in a tea, it has many other uses. Containing a natural antihistamine, chamomile also helps relieve the symptoms of hayfever.
Another popular use for chamomile is in skincare.
What does chamomile in skincare do?
Chamomile is often referred to as the 'gentle giant' of skincare. It is used primarily in skincare to soothe sensitive, dry or irritated skin. It also is known to boost circulation and promote a youthful appearance.
Chamomile in skincare is naturally:
- Anti-inflammatory
- Anti-bacterial
- Antiseptic
It is used for a range of skin problems including:
- Sensitive skin
- Dry skin
- Irritated skin
- Breakout-prone skin
- Dull and tired skin
- Ageing skin
Is chamomile good for sensitive skin?
Chamomile oil is very potent, with only a few drops needed to be beneficial for your skin. It’s anti-inflammatory, stimulates skin growth and repair and is high in antioxidants, making it both soothing and healing for skin irritations or sensitive skin types.
Tender, dry, irritated or generally sensitive skin respond well to calming and healing chamomile oil in skincare.
How we use chamomile in skincare
Amongst it’s amazing benefits, chamomile is incredibly gentle making it perfect for use on sensitive skin – our speciality!
