Our People

The Vasse Virgin team:

Mark Bahen - Director

"I appreciate the history and timelessness of the olive grove, I find that a walk through the olive grove is one of life’s steadying experiences, and working in an olive grove helps to reset the ego and balance the mind.”" As a former partner of one of Australia's leading commercial law firms, Mark has long been involved in Australia's agriculture industry, and is also a Director of St John of God Health Care. These days though, he's chosen to give up the corporate life, to swap his suit and tie for jeans and boots. Maintaining Vasse Virgin's beautiful olive grove under organic principles, Mark has ensured that only the finest produce is grown and harvested, to be used in the Vasse Virgin Tasting Room.

 Edwina Scherini - Managing Director

Edwina is the driving force behind the direction of our Vasse Virgin brand. For many years, she has also been a dynamic member of the local tourism industry, centrally involved in a number of projects. She held the coveted position of Vice Chairperson in the Augusta-Margaret River Tourism Association (now MRBTA) for three consecutive years, and was also a member of the Strategic Planning and Special Projects subcommittee, whose primary focus was the Australian Mega Fauna Project. Outside of the office, Edwina enjoys going horse-riding on local trails and occasionally indulging in a sneaky glass of Margaret River Chardonnay!

Louis Scherini - Managing Director

Affectionately known as the 'father' of Vasse Virgin, Louis first stumbled upon the success of our olive oil soaps when looking for a way to soothe the dry and irritated skin of his three children, all of whom suffered from eczema. Drawing on his Italian heritage, Louis researched the benefits of using olive oil and mixed his very first batch of soap on the family's kitchen stove, using a bucket and a wooden spoon. Following the success of the business, Louis has also been heavily involved in the Australian olive oil industry, primarily working as a judge for the Perth Royal Show. In 2015, he joined Edwina and Mark in Italy as they embarked on a course to become Australia's first Olive Oil Sommeliers. These days, you can often find Louis down in our Wilyabrup Soap Factory where you'll see him mixing up various concoctions and always experimenting with new ideas.

Romano Rotelli - Chef

Romano Rotelli"Every meal for an Italian is a celebration of the food that is about to be consumed and the family and friends that are sharing it. It is with this in mind that I prepare all our products and treat them with the respect that they deserve. I hope that you will get the same pleasure in eating them as I get from making them." When the Vasse Virgin brand extended in 2009 to cover a range of gourmet food and local produce, we needed a Chef in the know - so naturally, we turned to Romano. Like Louis, he's also Italian by heritage, and so Romano knows a thing or two about cooking! Developing scrumptious creations in his nearby Cowaramup kitchen, Romano's recipes are envied by all who visit Vasse Virgin's brand new Tasting Room.

Administration & Wholesale

Behind the scenes there is lot of paperwork to do, but thankfully our office gals understand all of those numbers to crunch. They work together making sure everything runs smoothly, across all our stores, everyday.

Marketing & Customer Support

Great product needs great design, and natural skin care is no different. Packaging and labelling is developed in house by our very own graphic designer, along with all the fun competitions and quirky social media posts you might have seen. She also encourages you to sign up to our monthly newsletter, to stay in touch with all the latest from the Vasse Virgin team.

Production & Mail Order

Operating out of our 'home base' in Wilyabrup Western Australia, these talented individuals are responsible for crafting each and every one of our natural soaps and skin care products, using the finest natural ingredients with plenty of care. Adjacent to the factory floor, our mail order team hand wrap every parcel for dispatch three days a week.
